Inventor Ferenc Mészáros has been improving the Greenion technology since 2007. The idea, like so many revolutionary solutions, is based on the imitation of natural processes. Mészáros, who used to produce and study consumable mushrooms and medicinal fungi, worked internationally as a mycology expert and was involved in the optimization of the operation of mushroom farms, was inspired by mushrooms, which have some features that are unique and exceptional in nature. These creatures would rank high in a global CO2 emission race. The findings only seem simple in hindsight: the implementation of the natural processes of mushrooms observed in nature and of the CO2 reducing mechanisms of the ozone layer and natural waters is suitable for neutralizing anthropogenic CO2 emission. In other words, the process that has proved effective in nature is suitable in case of smog and industrial waste gases, and in every enclosed space and habitat where it is necessary to reduce high CO2 content (the byproduct of breathing). “In the development of Greenion our focus was on how we could reproduce the perfect solutions of nature, a result of billions of years of improvement, in everyday life the most effectively, doing this in an environmentally friendly and at the same time self-sustaining and economic way, to promote sustainable development,” adds Mészáros.

How does Greenion reduce carbon dioxide?

The device uses an electrochemical process to clean mixtures with a high gas concentration that enter the device, and by exciting the molecules, the technical solution imitates the processes in the ozone layer. Ionized water with alkaline ions is used as processing agent in this revolutionary technology. In the process ions and hydrated ions dissolved in water are generated from the gas, and carbon dioxide is converted into gas carbonate ions or bicarbonates, which are also found in nature, e.g. in natural waters. Ionization requires a small amount of energy, which can be supplied with a solar cell.
